"Beta"

My "Beta"

So presentation is right around the corner and as I feared I was unable to make a complete game. But on the bright side what I do have seems to be work fine I haven't seen any bugs or glitches but knowing my look all the glitches well show for the presentation.

Unfortunately I am not where I would like to be I had a string of bad luck with my games development that really held me back. The biggest problem I have is, as expected, with the script. With an RTS game you select your units by left clicking for one, Shift left clicking of certain units and clicking and dragging a box for group selections, I can only manage to activate clicking and shift clicking or box selection, I can't seem to get these actions to work in unison with one another and have had to disable the box selection for my units.

  1. Hey Oisin,

I think everyone has gotten some form of bad luck with the development of their games so I wouldn't be too worried!

What you have look very well designed and it looks like it is a very interesting and fun game.

Great work and I can't wait to play it on Wednesday,

  2. Hey Oisin,

This was such an ambitious undertaking, and I think you've done an amazing job on your game. C# scripting is hard on the simplest of tasks, and you managed to do some pretty advanced stuff! So well done, and be proud.

Would this game be something you'd like to keep working on after the final playlets? Or are you looking forward to never going near Unity again?

I have no tips or advice to share, as what you've done is beyond me. I'm looking forward to playing it for myself.

  3. Hello there Oisin, I have read through you game's beta and I am pleased to hear it seems to have something to go on. Like I may have said before, I really think its rather intriguing you opted to go for a RTS game since I can't recall too many people in our year trying to attempt a game like that. Regarding the bad luck befalling you during your game's presentation, I imagine a majority of people in the year have had the same issues as yourself if not worse. So I can imagine that whatever problems you are experiencing, others have suffered similar if not worse dilemas. But back onto the game again, I think the animation you have going on for the soldiers being able to move in accordance with where you click is really cool, even though you have pointed out that its only functioning if you shift click. I hope your the rest of your developments improve from here.

  4. Hello there Oisin,
I loved reading your blog on your beta version of your own game on Unity. I love the look of your game and also love the idea of your game. I think you should be proud of what you have done because it looks really hard. I think everyone who has tried to make to make their own game has had problems that has then set them back from where they want to be. I find the scripting on Unity to be very hard and also found myself not being able to do some things I wanted to do in my original game idea. I think your being harsh on how good you have done so far. Was it hard to make your game look like that with them characters? I am looking forward to play your game and I think it will be an amazing game. Good luck and cya soon.

  5. Hi Oisin,

I really like your blog! I know that we been talking about each other games and so I know you were struggling with this. I also know you've been working hard on this, spending way more time then you should be, it's like every time we had free-time, you went straight to working on your game (well, until Halo remastered came out haha)!

You're not the only one whose struggling with their games and code, don't get me even started about health bars.

So don't stress about it or the fact that you not as far as you thought you would be, think everyone can agree that C# is hard and everyone is having set-backs.

I know you are planning to keep working on the game so what do you plan to add ? Will you add other maps or different classes of soldiers?

It's weird writing cause your one of my last blog that I'm commenting on before the end of the semester!

Anyway happy Holidays and I hope to see you next semester !

  6. Hey Oisin,
I really enjoyed reading your blog you obviously put a lot of effort and time into your game sorry to hear some aspects of your game are not working but your game looks great I feel like everyone has gone through some struggle throughout their gaming development and have had some sort of issue especially with c# script sorry to hear that your game is not what you wanted it to be but you have another semester to work on it and make it better and to the standard that you would like it ino how much you worked on your game and it shows overall your game is functional and has a good design aspect to it anyway I hope to read more about your game soon.

  7. Hi Oisin,

I'm really impressed with your game so far despite the struggles you've been having in its development. I dont think anyone in this module has not struggled at some point or another so dont feel discouraged! I had a chance to play your game this week and the camera functions and moving soldiers was really impressive.

You're planning on developing this game further next semester if I'm correct? That would be a perfect chance to implement the things you would have liked to this semester. Have you thought about where your game is going to go down the road? Will there be different maps, or an expanded map with multiple objectives?

Great work this semester and hope you have a nice break!
